Having decided to go for abortion – a difficult decision to take when I became pregnant the first time – I was young and I discussed it with my parents and boy friend. In view of my new career in Dubai – It was a difficult decision.
But once I decided to go for it – I started searching places for the various possibilities of getting an abortion done. There were two options – fly to UK or fly to India. India was a closer destination. Being a Filipino – India has an option for visa on arrival. I seen a lot of good Indian doctors in Dubai and my first choice was India.
I looked around, talked to my friends for their opinion. I am pretty choosy about the place where I would like to take treatment. A little talking to my friends who had undergone abortion some of them did illegal abortion in Phillipines - however two had flown to Mumbai for a safe and legal abortion procedures.
Searching on the internet – we found the Family hospital at Mumbai as a good center for undergoing the first trimester abortion. My friend had been there and she said it is a pretty neat and clean place with good doctors and caring nurses.
So I took a ticket to India. Air Arabia from Sharjah gives good discounted tickets for India. About 15,000 AED for a return ticket. I released my passport from my office and booked the tickets. I had taken a confirmed hotel booking. The flight to Mumbai was comfortable. On landing at Mumbai – I was received by the Travel Manager at the airport who was standing with my name placard. He efficiently transferred my belongings to a waiting luxury SUV. A half hour short drive to the Medical center and I was received by a nurse who took me to a cosy comfortable room.
After a little rest, they requested me to fill a history form and place some information online asking my past and present history and information about my medical condition. A blood sample was collected and a ultrasonography was performed by a female doctor. The complete atmosphere was comforting and the place felt safe and confident. I understood the take a lot of care of privacy.
After the results of the investigations came in, I was consulted by the doctor who confirmed the history- examined me and explained to me the complete procedure. After answering a few small queries - I was ready for the procedure.
The procedure involved placing a few tablets below in my vagina and an injection. Following this, I had a little discomfort in lower abdomen and a small bit of spotting pre vaginum. The staff was very caring and reassuring and took special care of me.
After about 2 hours, I was taken to the operation room for the procedure. The Operation theatre is very good. It has all possible medical equipments and very quiet and sterile. They place a nasal tube for oxygen and gave me a small injection in my left hand. I was asleep in a matter of minutes and dreaming.
I woke up in my comfortable room. I was a bit drowsy but the nurse was there to help me get up and told me that the procedure was done. She gave me a glass of water and then some fruit juice till I was comfortable and walking around the room.
I had a small dinner and feel asleep while watching television. I was awake the next day morning and had a good breakfast. Everything felt good and normal. After a bath, I asked the staff if I could go around for a little sight seeing and shopping. They promptly helped me with the information and arranged for a vehicle with a driver to take me around Mumbai.
I reached back in the evening after a good day.
Overall the experience was nice.
I thanks the staff for all the help and the doctor for his professional services.
